Life begins at
sixty. David "Ebb" Ebersole, Mark Fletcher, Richard Howard, and Harvey
Royal will attest to it. These gentlemen have a combined service to the
City of Jacksonville of one hundred and forty-one years. All four men
retired from the Jacksonville Fire/Rescue Department in early 2004.
Like early
pioneers who settled this wonderful country, they are saddling up and
ready to ride the four corners of the United States. Instead of riding
horse flesh, their steeds are fire engine red, Firefighter Special Edition
Harley Davidson Motorcycles.
The four met May
9, 2004 at JFRD Station 31, on Wilson Blvd. and departed at 9:00 a.m.
Their plan is to ride from Jacksonville to Key West, Florida; on to San
Ysidro, California; Head north to Blaine, Washington; then east to
Madawaska, Maine. The last leg of their journey is home to Jacksonville,
returning home from their 10,000+ mile trek in late June. If anyone is
interested in following their progress it will be posted on this webpage
as they travel.
